Dukes Bar

Not had a Martini at Dukes bar? You've not lived

Aside from the fact that it’s almost impossible to find (first dates may think you’re going to murder them down the alley at the back of St James’s), BarChick hearts Dukes in a very big way. Like us, it’s discreet, charming and good at getting people in the sack.

Nestled in a quiet alley in the posh bit behind The Wolseley, this gaff quietly shows other hotel bars how to behave. Here’s the drill: turn up early evening with someone diverting, beckon over a white-jacketed bar legend (Alessandro if you’re lucky) and settle down with a half-litre of neat ice-cold spirits to get the party started. Dukes is all about Martinis: from the Vesper to the truffle-infused, even the most cynical old boozer is bound to find something appealing.

Immaculately served tableside, complete with a bowl of olives and nuts to keep you from falling down the stairs until you’ve managed at least two. This isn't just a drink, it's an experience.
