This could probably be one of the best bars in London to get stuck into some really decent wine. Super–posh wine director Tim French (Timmy?) has put together an outstanding package for boozy winos:either pick up any bottle you like from the superb wine department next door and sip it in the bar for a tenner corkage, or else let the barkeeps make the choice and go for a ‘flight’ – a ridiculously cheap way to learn about wine (and get hammered very cheaply).
The bar’s in the basement, and pretty cozy too, particularly at night when there’s a dude playing jazz guitar. The food’s pretty good too; platters of stuff that sound like something out of a Famous Five picnic.
Yep, it’s a good place for a date, particularly as it stays open after the store itself has closed. So give it a whirl after work some day, neck a few Gevrey Chambertains and see if you can pocket yourself a ceramic jar of stilton on your way out.
