Clearly a skip down the slightly fishy Ridley Road Market is a little too far for the kind of Shoreditch w*nkers we all wanna avoid, because this bar is refreshingly free of the undercuts, leotards and attitude Dalston has become known for. By day Ridley Road Market Bar has a laid back vibe with people having coffee or drinking cans of Red Stripe, and plenty of local market traders too.
But by night this turns into a disco-dancing tiki hot house like the seventies took a holiday in Hawaii. Think Club Tropicana in a DIY Dalston dive. The walls are made of off-cut wood panels, the dance floor is chequered, there are pot plants everywhere and it all has a hashed together vibe that makes BarChick feel it’s perfectly okay to get a little crazy. And so we did. On a summer Saturday night even the glitter ball is dripping with sweat and the fake parrot is flapping. Pretty dreamy really.
They’ve got a little makeshift terrace with picnic tables and a street food van with rotating vendors like the brilliantly named Slice Girls. The cocktails are easy peasy and delicious like the ginger Mojitos, all in plastic cups with lots of ice. Don't bother with the pennies and pounds - this place is completely cashless, so it's card payments all the way. The only other thing BarChick wanted for was some sand between our toes…maybe next time.
