If you like the idea of a visit to a Chinese Opium den in 1870’s San Francisco, then this is about as close as you’ll get in London. Hidden in a underground den on a quiet back street in Fitzrovia, come and let them exercise your cocktail palate. It’s full of weird and wonderful things; crumbling walls decorated with Chinese parasols, shelves of Singer sewing machines, vintage trunks, old telephones and other knick knacks... you’ll think you’ve stepped off a steamer into the 19th Century.
The Chinese theme ends the decor, but take a group of friends or a hot date and hide away in one of the red velvet curtained caves, which are perfect for a little late night mischief. On the drinks front it’s all about their expertly made cocktails. BarChick rates their classic Dark & Stormy that always makes us thirsty for more - and many more there are.
Friendly bartenders and a cool crowd keep things light and fun here, with no faff or bullsh*t. They take it up a notch at the weekend when they stay open late and the DJ (who plays from behind an old school piano) gets the party started. Iif you’re lucky there might even be a live band taking over. The great news is that they do delicious pizzettas, so you can go ahead and cancel any other dinner plans you might have made. This place is as addictive as an opium den, you’ll be back for more.
