This discreet bar tucked away near the Old Street roundabout is the best thing to happen to Shoreditch since the Trilby. Head down the stairs and you'll feel like you’re in a 1920s speakeasy: it's all very "New York" and sophisticated, so dress up and get yourself a proper drink. Go for whatever genius creation is on that menu; this place is world famous for its creative serves, and we don’t even know how they think up some of this sh*t. Their menu has some killer drinks, and past ingredients have included seaweed air, mozzarella, savoury sand, dragon's blood resin and peanut butter ice cubes. Seriously, the cocktails are some of the best in London.
The table service is awesome and there’s plenty to nibble on; fat olives, a board of cheese and spicy meat delights - but what we’re really hungry for is the live music. Bands play every night. On peak nights (Wednesday-Saturday), a cover charge is added to your bill, but it’s worth every penny. You’ll be spoilt for choice with their eclectic mix of gypsy swing, jazz and American classics. There’s no dance floor, but feel free to get moving if you’re feeling it. Can't get enough of this place? Check out Nightjar 2.0 the next time you're in Soho.
