Best Mexicans in London

BarChick has always had a soft spot for Mexicans, so it’s lucky London delivers the goods so well. We’ve found the best tequila collections in London, the finest guacamole, the spiciest Sangritas and some BIG ass sombreros.
Here are the best Mexicans in town…

Best Margaritas in town

El Camion

This is BarChick’s favourite hangout… she thinks. She usually doesn’t remember leaving, but she’s always very sure she had a great time. Margaritas flow like tap water and they’re GOOD. Don’t have big plans for the next day because it’s hard to leave here after just one.

25 – 27 Brewer Street, London, W1F 0RR

Artesian at the Langham

If you fancy being a bit upmarket then these guys have got your back. They have done a twist on the classic Tommy Margarita with their Pink and Gold which is Don Julio Blanco, fresh lime and homemade syrup using Chinese white tea, hibiscus flower and rose petals. Swish.

1C Portland Place, London, W1B 1JA

Crazy Homies

Into your Margaritas? The guys at Crazy Homies have 8 different ones to choose from. Think you’re tough? Get the Anejo Margarita, known as the hard hitter. If you know your tequilas you can make it how you like it, choose your brand and drink away.

125 Westbourne Park Road, London, W2 5QL

Santo

This place has it all, dancing, Margaritas, food and mescal. What more could anyone want? The bar is right at the back, and you’ll be unlucky not to find Carlos behind it, you won’t miss him either (you’re looking for the big guy with the huge beard). He knows his mescals from his Margaritas, and has a big list for you to choose from!

299 Portobello Rd, London, W10 5TD

Best tequila collections

Cafe Pacifico

With the owner also owning Ocho tequila it’s pretty clear these guys know how to stock a decent bar… more importantly, making sure it’s one of the baddest tequila selections in town.

5 Langley Street, London WC2H 9JA

Mestizo

With over 200 tequilas there is plenty to keep you entertained. Try and sample them all… but maybe split them up between you all or things could get a bit loco. Get in a few rounds and ask for Sangritas – they’ll come on some big long tequila carrying canoe… obviously!

103 Hampstead Road, London, NW1 3EL

La Bodega Negra

With a Mexican taqueria and café upstairs and an underground tequila cellar bar below. Enter through an old sex shop entrance, this is the perfect place to drink yourself happy with their huge selection of tequila (over 60). Book in advance, and don’t be surprised if you spot a celeb.

16 Moor Street, London, W1D 5NH

Late night hangouts

Tonteria

This hot new hangout not only has great Mexican drinks and food, they’ve also got piñatas, photo booths and even better; a shot train that delivers drinks TO your table. Head down for the evening and hang out in hammock styled chairs and take on their tequila selection, this place is perfect for quick after work drinks or wanting to dance until the early hours!

7-12 Sloane Square, London SW1 W8EG

Death by Burrito

Shoreditch has a new kid in town, the Margaritas rock, as do the frozen cocktails and they’ve got some seriously good contemporary Mexican dishes. We’re talking fish tacos, lobster ceviche and braised pork belly burritos. BarChick loved their deconstructed Sangrita that she got on arrival. It’s basically shots of Jose Cuervo Tradicional tequila served on a board with cherry tomatoes which are then dipped into their spicy celery salt mixture… they’re damn good. Plus later on the lights go low and the music goes up.. get on your dancing shoes.

22 Kingsland Road, E2 8DA

Chamucos Clubhouse at Crazy Homies

Chamucos means little devil in Mexican, so it suits this cheeky hidden underground bar beneath Crazy Homies. Just when you thought you couldn’t have any more tequila, this place proves you wrong. With street art all over the walls of the devil in true Day of the Dead style, comfy leather booths and a VIP table behind the bar, this is a banging location for a night out. Start upstairs, and work your way down.

125 Westbourne Park Road, London, W2 5QL

El Camion

El Camino has some serious nachos going on. We’re talking fully loaded with guacamole, salsa, sour cream, a hell of a lot of cheese and then a choice of chicken or beef… these guys aren’t stingy, you’ll get what you deserve! The Baja Rooms below have DJs spinning beats until the early hours too. Get some shots in, you’ll be here all night.

25 – 27 Brewer Street, London, W1F 0RR

Banging food

Wahaca

This place is always a good bet when it comes to getting Mexican, their guacamole is one of the best in London. BarChick went through 4 bowls full in about 10 minutes. Fancy some bad ass tacos? Head to the stand on Exmouth Market, always a winner, this isn’t no tex mex.

Various locations

Taqueria

Some of the most authentic Mexican food you can find in London. Get there early or be prepared to wait at the bar until a table frees up (with margaritas this good and a long list of tequilas and mezcals on offer the wait shouldn’t bother you!). Tacos are insane and the we could eat the black beans all day. PLUS if you go Mon – Fri 5pm-7pm tacos are half price and two margaritas are a fiver… DEAL.

139-143 Westbourne Grove, London W11 2RS

Bar off Broadway

This may not necessarily be a Mexican bar/restaurant but the owner was raised in a Mexican house so it means their food menu is decked out with the Mexican street food classics: nachos, burritos, tacos and quesadillas… all done well, plus the portions are killer.

63-65 Broadway Market, London Fields, E8 4PH

MEATmarket

These guys have dipped their toes into the Mexican pool and are now serving some insane jalapeño poppers. Get involved with those, perfect partner for your big f*ck off burger.

The Deck, Jubilee Market Hall, Tavistock Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 8BE

Casa Morita

Brixton market we love, grab a £1 taco from outside but if you have more time then grab a table. It’s all very affordable and while sitting there it’s easy to forget you’re in London. Check out their  beer cocktails, order the Michelada – which is a beer of your choice poured over ice mixed with Tabasco & Buffalo salsa, Worcestershire sauce, soya and fresh lime juice… it’s pretty tangy but go with it. The burritos are HUMUNGOUS, and we ain’t complaining.

9 Market Row, Brixton, SW9 8LB
