Ice Bar

BARCHICK SAYS

There are some things in London life you have to try once: Madame Tussauds, Buckingham Palace, the Dolphin after hours, the pet cemetery … a kebab on the night bus. And then there is the Ice Bar, one of London’s most googled bars. Book ahead, the sightseers are like moths to a flame here. So, two people pay £25 for a 40 minute time slot, a free drink and most importantly some kick ass thermal capes - what’s not to like?

Five minutes before kick-off you get in line for your new arctic makeover, it’s kind of like a cape christening, everyone looks awesome in these things (cameras out). Consider your foot wear in advance: BarChick wore flip flops… not ideal for a freezer.

The door slides open and you enter the "coolest" bar in town. It’s all made of ice except the floor (thankfully), the stalls and the barmen. The room’s quite small, the music is elevator worthy and the bar’s along the back with various ice sculptures on the walls, ice tables and a little seating area around the corner. The main focus is get your free drink and take photos, it’s pretty much the aim of the game in here.  The drinks are small, pretty strong and brightly coloured but surprisingly alright, plus now you can get more choice than just vodka, BarChick loved the tequila based Light My Fire.

Keep an eye on that huge digital timer on the wall counting down the 40mins, more than enough time unless you're the new Bear Grylls/in training for the Arctic. BarChick and her flip flops left after 20 minutes, and no you cannot steal that cape with any ease. It’s a one hit wonder in here, you'll probably only want to go once, but that’s cool.
