Beautifully tucked beneath the chaos of Piccadilly Circus, lies Brasserie Zédal home to the wondrous Bar Américain. Safely ensconced in this art deco haven it feels like you could be sheltering from an air raid or a movie star boarding an ocean liner.
What used to be the legendary Atlantic bar, this new offering is sultry and damn fine. Dress up (or alternatively sit amongst Disney-clad tourists in your finery) and revel in your surroundings. With gold gilding, dark wood panelling, tiger print carpets, beautiful wartime wallpaper and pretty lamps giving off a sexy ambience this is the place to take a killer date, or, failing that, your parents.
The menu is elegant and classy. Order a Belle Zédel with vodka, Crème de Myrtille, rose liqueur, lemon juice, rhubarb bitters, egg white and blueberries, or get your crampons on and climb into one their Sazeracs. Eat at the Parisian brasserie next door and come back to settle in for the evening.
