BarChick loves a bit of ‘ooh la la’ in the evening, and with the UK’s only indoor pétanque court (think bowls on gravel) and goodlookin’ wine-sipping guys and girls, this place has plenty of French charm. These guys have got the Provence feel right… what could be better in this busy city than stepping downstairs into a bar that feels like a wine cellar, with some modern twists? The olive trees outside will point the way.
It’s tres relaxed down here, sit at the bar, find a table or slide into one of the private booths that stretch into the back of the space. The music is chilled but the cheering from the pétanque court keeps the atmosphere lively (make sure you book to play, it’s pretty popular!). The cocktail menu is generously sized and the French vibe doesn’t stop at the decor – there’s plenty of interesting herbs and Pastis in there. The drinks are fresh and exciting, with a couple of twists on classics, but the Thyme Daiquiri is not something that you should leave without trying. It was SMASHING! Another shout out goes to the Rosé Mojito – that’s right, the French aren’t just good at cooking and surrendering.
Hungry? The bar snacks are perfect for sharing with mates while you chill with your drinks. There are cold meats, cheese and other delicious delicacies. Being French, it probably goes without saying that the food is good here but just to be clear, the burger is out of this world – they don’t mess around: literally burger and chips on a bread board. La vie est belle!
