Gremio de Brixton

BARCHICK SAYS

Bored of waiting for a table at Brixton Market’s restaurants? You clearly haven’t heard of the hottest new hang out down the road. Tucked beneath the unassuming St Matthew’s Church is the dark and intimate Gremio de Brixton.

It’s easy to miss this place, but when you know about it, you'll feel pretty bad ass taking your mates. Walk towards the church and down the dark stairs to the side, through the large creepy gate and enter this spacious, arched, candle lit Spanish tapas bar.

With small tables dotted about, mismatched frames, a huge bulls head on the wall and flickering lighting, it’s all romantic but still damn cool. We were loving the small Catholic shrine surrounded by candles in the corner… VERY Romeo & Juliet.

These guys are serving Spanish beers, sherry, wines and gin teamed up with pinxto and a long list of tapas dishes, plus this place is open till 3am at the weekend so it knows how to party too. Expect DJs spinning Latin, reggae and hip hop… perfect combination. The kitchen is churning out a wicked selection of snacks on the bar if you want to soak up all the sherry you’re sinking! Their tapas menu is also definitely worth checking out - patatas bravas and all the good stuff.
