Barchick Says
What do you get when street-food BBQ masters team up with the Executive Chef from Hawksmoor? Finger licking BBQ’d goodness!
If you haven’t heard of the Pitt Cue BBQ food truck that spent last summer parked under the Hungerford (…hunger?) bridge on the South Bank, then you must definitely try and get out more. BarChick found herself first in line when the Pitt Cue boys opened the doors of their new Soho, wheels-free restaurant this January.
This place is tiny, the street level bar is little more than a take-away counter with lace curtains, but the drinks are creative, all whiskey based, dirty-south style cocktails. Drink the ‘New York Sour’, a Whiskey Sour with red wine layered on top, or the ‘Big Mac ‘n’ Rye’, like a dirty Manhattan with Bourbon, Vermouth and pickle juice. You’ll find no shortage of pickles and bourbon on this menu, BarChick loves their signature pickle-back shots – a shot of bourbon followed by a house made, pickle-brine chaser. They also have a beer on tap (organic and brewed just for them), and one red and one white wine by the glass.
Downstairs the teensy dining room is no frills – they let their smokers, Doris and Ethel, do the talking. The small, changing, food menu of beef ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, is divine. Order a few small jars of sides for sharing: crispy fried shiitake mushrooms, loads of pickled vegetables and the killer hot wings should never be missed. The view was certainly prettier from the South Bank location, but this is a pretty great cold weather version of the original!
