Hidden beneath Kentish Canteen lies this prohibition style drinking den. With a dark, small, but well-stocked bar, a good selection of well-chosen beats and a candle lit ambience, it is the perfect place to end (or even begin) a night.
Eat upstairs, then head down to drink. Don’t loiter at the bar, this place is cooler than that: instead take a pew on one of the leather benches around the edge. The tipple of choice down here it the illegal Irish moonshine Potcheen/ Poteen (spelt Poitin in its home country), but don’t worry since 1999 it’s now kosher so you won’t get locked up. Having said that they do have cells out back that only 60 years ago banged up badass criminals, but now as the Snug, Nook and Cranny they’re much more inviting so get some inmates together and settle in for the evening.
Potcheen is a pretty special liquor, with only seven people legally bottling it worldwide, so if you wanna know more then Dave the owner is the one to ask. BarChick liked the Poitin Old Fashioned made with a rosemary and thyme syrup using Cooley Poitin, it’s fab and at 65% proof you more than get your money’s worth! But hey, if you’re not feeling the Irish produce then the bartender will happily knock you up something more to your liking.
Drink on, but drink steady – this stuff is pretty lethal and be careful you don’t get impounded down here.
