The newest kid on the block from the Firmdale Group hotels has made its mark a little further away from its older siblings just north of the Euston Road. Descending the stone steps to the basement is not the usual for a hotel bar, but we liked the feeling that we were some z list celeb sneaking in. It’s a smaller, cosier atmosphere with the signature pewter bar we have seen before.

The theme is cricket with well worn bats, terracotta pots filled with grass on the walls and cleverly named cocktails; special mention goes to the Silly Middle Wicket which is a Potting Shed special – Tanqueray Gin, rhubarb liquor, citrus juices and fresh basil. They also do some delicious classics and martinis which are well worth a go. The wine is served by the glass so there’s no need to down a bottle before your next meeting…. though if you find yourself a little weary there’s the most comfortable looking sitting room to pass out in upstairs – Howzat!
