Down in the rock-cave basement of Hotel U Prince, lurks one of Prague's finest bars. Black Angels is dark, sexy, mysterious and hidden away just well enough to deter the Old Town tourist traffic.
Their website is dripping in awards and accolades, as is the menu which lists names of some of the world's best barmen as regular patrons, but we judge a bar by its gin and tonic, and this right here is the best in Prague. They serve it Spanish style, one large chunk of ice in a goblet style glass, with a twist of citrus, some Fever Tree tonic and a gin selection to keep even the fussiest entertained. The cocktail menu is filled with classics and their own creations, all prepared as exquisitely as the G&Ts, with crystal glasses, hand cut ice and plenty of flare. One of their Blazers on a winter's night will sort you right out.
There are plenty of corners for heavy petting, the bar is practically made of them and the nightly piano renditions of rock classics are awesome (yes Metallica). The bar staff speak English, but don't go expecting any friendly service in here if you don't speak Czech.
If the idea of hiding in a cave on a summer's day doesn't do it for you, well upstairs is one of the prettiest terraces in Prague, just high enough for a view of all the red rooftops, and in winter they sell hot Svarak (mulled wine) in paper cups in the square, Black Angels have got your back.
