U Krale Brabantskeho

BARCHICK SAYS

This place is creepy. Dark caverns, creepy staircases and a ceiling covered in skulls, under the walls of Prague Castle. You have been warned. U Krale Brabantskeho is as close as you'll get to a real Czech medieval tavern and it’s been open since 1475! It has recently been reincarnated into quite a cosy spot, with worn wooden communal tables, animal skins torture equipment on the walls and candles everywhere.

The staff stay in the character of surly Middle Ages barkeeps, of course if you don't speak Czech you won't actually realize how informal and rude they're being, BarChick's date had to translate. Ask to be seated all the way downstairs in the creepiest part and drink mugs of mulled wine or beer, or if you're really getting into the medieval thing, try a glass of warm mead. The food menu is all sorts of things like pigs internals, poor traveller's plate and beef steak from a stout bull, they'll slam it down in front of you, you're back in the Middle Ages remember, manners haven't been invented yet.

They do a bit of a touristy theatre thing here every night, if you're into that. We prefer it during the day, when you can escape the cold and go back in time with a hot date. Oh and they have wifi, so not entirely authentic, but very handy!
