Bambini Wine Room

BARCHICK SAYS

Bambini might be the Italian word for children but don’t be fooled, this place is anything but child’s play. Housed in the beautiful Art Deco St. James Trust building, the wine room (which is separated from the restaurant by a corridor) certainly evokes the same kind of elegant charm, with its black leather seats, marble tops and its ornate gilded mirror. It kind of has a European feel to it, if you close your eyes you can almost imagine being in one of those beautiful enotecas that Italy does so well…

But this is Sydney baby, and BarChick found herself in the company of a chic and smartly dressed clientele mainly made up of the after work brigade. The crowd thins out a little later in the evening so if you want a table (especially those outside when the weather is good) do as BarChick does and either get here early and get stuck in or arrive fashionably late. If you haven't already guessed, vino is the main attraction here, although they do a competent Negroni and a Bellini if you're not feeling like getting your wine head on.

When in Bambini… drink wine: by glass, bottle or half (you know the way we roll). Unsurprisingly, bar snacks are damn tasty, but if you want to go all out and quaff your way through the a la carte menu, hey, at least it means you’ll be able to drink more.
