Pourhouse

BARCHICK SAYS

Tucked away in historic Gastown, the place where Vancouver first laid its roots, Pourhouse has real Prohibition vibes. Think olde worlde decor, Edison light bulbs, antiques and a jazz soundtrack to take you right back in time along with classic cocktails to match. This is one of the best bars about.

Channel Hemingway and prop up the shiny 38-ft reclaimed Douglas Fir bar – this is the centre of the action, though there are tables too for diners or dates. The drink menu is intentionally small, simple and seasonal, inspired by 19th century cocktail recipes, but let the friendly bartenders get creative and tailor a drink to your tastes. As for food, this is traditional Colonial style; simple, hearty and seriously satisfying. For real atmosphere, hit it up on Sundays at 7pm for live jazz.
