Where are you from?
Cape Town, South Africa
Where do you/have you worked?
Orphanage – Cape Town, Buena Vista and Casa Del Sol – Somerset West, Cape Town
How do you like your Martini?
Always vodka, always dry and always stirred. Sometimes dirty with loads of olives, or sometimes with a twist.
Hard to say but lately it’s an Old Fashioned, in particular a vanilla Old Fashioned.
Bad ass barman/Rock n Roll moment?
My best bad ass moment had to be on the busiest night of the club I was working for at the time. Let me explain – the bar was 6 work-stations long and the customers were standing about 6 or 7 deep at the bar. Waiting for service took about half an hour or more, and all 8 of the bartenders were spinning like tops. Customers were screaming and swearing at us as impatient customers do when waiting too long for drinks.
Anyway, I saw this really attractive chick at the bar and we both made eye contact, so I just gave her a pen and paper and told her I wanted her number. She gave it to me and after serving her drinks I climbed onto the bar counter in front of her, she leaned in and we had a good 15 second snog in front of well over a hundred screaming and swearing people – we just didn’t care.
It was like time stood still and everything went silent, the other barmen couldn’t believe what had just happened, then they stared to cheer for me. The customers weren’t impressed, neither was my manager. I didn’t care though, it was worth it.
She kept coming back to me for more drinks…and kisses.
Ever done it on a bar?
No, unfortunately not. But I have done it with a bar manageress…I don’t think that counts though.
What's next for you?
New York, New York – to go there is my dream and get some more experience under my belt by working in a really good bar there. Then I’d like to come back home and open a small bar of my own.
Best/worst chat up lines you've heard at a bar?
To be honest I try not to eavesdrop on peoples conversations, so I don’t hear too many. I once heard a bartender say to a girl “how about an Australian kiss, sexy”. She asked “what’s an Australian kiss?”, to which he replied “It’s like a French kiss but down under”.
She laughed and they hooked up.
What did you want to be as a kid?
A pilot. The problem is I completely suck at math, and ironically I don’t really enjoy flying.
Tell us a secret or something we don't know?
Somehow I feel that if I told you a secret it kind of won’t be a secret anymore?
