A little bit of history...

Invented at Buck’s Club in London back in 1921 by Pat McGarry (AKA the same dude behind the Christmas morning staple, Buck’s Fizz) the Sidecar is about as classic as they come. Essentially a member of the sour family, it gets its sweetness from Cointreau, its sourness from lemon juice and then its boozy punch from Cognac. Specifically for us, it’s always Rémy Martin.

The Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal shines especially well in a Sidecar. This particular blend is to commemorate the reward of excellence bestowed on Rémy Martin by King Louis XV of France in 1738. Yeah, it’s a pretty big deal. Sip it neat and you’ll pick up the fruitness of plum and fig jam, and a richness of dark chocolate and toffee. It’s also rocking oaky vibes with some subtle notes of vanilla and brioche, and all of that together makes for one epic Sidecar.

How to make a Sidecar:

30ml Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal
20ml Cointreau
10ml fresh lemon juice

Pour all ingredients over ice and shake well before straining into a coupe glass and garnish with lemon peel.

For a seasonal twist, cover fresh or dried figs with the Rémy Martin 1738 cognac and leave in a sealable jar overnight. Strain the liquid and use instead of the plain cognac in the classic recipe. Serve in a coupe and garnish with a cinnamon stick and fig wedge. Your Christmas just levelled up!
