Make a beeline for Midtown and promise yourself you’ll return to hotspot Legacy Records on another occasion. Tonight it’s all about Ada’s Place - the bar tucked just upstairs. Cocktails aren’t generally purse-denters, coming in at around $18, but there’s chances to go rogue and splash some cash with the Reserve options. An El Ray made with Don Julio Anejo Tequila 1942 and Champagne will set you back $95. Ouch.
The cocktails are by Jeff Bell - the dude who rocked our world with P.D.T. You can expect tasty things from a seasonally rotating list. BarChick got her freak on with the Bank Note - Banks 7 Golden Age Rum, D'usse VSOP, black tea, honey, and mole bitters. That’s the Mexican sauce, not the small burrowing animal. It’s also worth checking out the spirit list. There are an eye-popping 250 varieties by the glass on here. Vintage chartreuse even makes an appearance - now that’s niche bartender’s booze if ever we heard of one. We recommend arriving hungry, because there are bar snacks here you don’t wanna miss. Who wouldn’t want Cheese Puffs alongside their Ramona Paloma? And their burger, with black truffle, mozzarella and a milk bun, is a thing of dreams.
The space is very luxe-lounge-like. Racing-green velvet banquettes, a golden glimmering ceiling, mahogany panelling and touches of marble creates a sense of swanky sophistication. That’s not to say it’s not good for a party - the colourful mural on the wall and fire-engine red paint gives us the feeling Ada’s Place encourages a little shoulder-wiggling as much as the next nightspot.
