Belthazar

BARCHICK SAYS

Cape Town is known for its amazing wineries and vineyards, so the wine is pretty damn good wherever you go, but Belthazar is like a whole new ball game. With over 600 wines to choose from and 250 that can be enjoyed by the glass… in fact it’s the largest wine by the glass bar in the WORLD, so get stuck in. Needless to say the menu is HUGE (both in choice and size) and the waiters on hand are ready to help you with their knowledge - the training here must be seriously good/lengthy. Little tags are attached to your glass with information about the wine so you don’t forget what you’ve got in front of you, take home the ones you like so can order them on your next visit - seriously nice touch boys.

Sit out on the large terrace if it’s a nice day, take in the views of Table Bay and enjoy the atmosphere out on the waterfront, there is usually some sort of live music playing (we were big fans of the xylophone band, haven’t played those since playschool). Inside is big and yet cosy at the same time, and all the bottles behind the bar are lit up with a bright blue light so everything looks pretty cool.

This place was chosen by the public as the best steak and seafood restaurant on the V&A Waterfront and they ain’t lying. Plus there are so many restaurants here it’s quite the title to have. If you like restaurants that give out bread and butter, then just you wait till you try their huge brioche swirl, butter, sausage and tomato dip casserole thing… top notch. With the freshest South African seafood, aged Karan beef, Mozambican shellfish and some other gems like springbok (yeh they’re cute but shh, they’re tasty) there is something for everyone. Heads up, if you like your steak but want something different then have the ostrich, it’s seriously good so do get involved. Fancy some fish? Get the seafood platter, when BarChick and her date did they had to be moved to a bigger table, an unbelievable amount of the biggest prawns ever before seen… get ready to get your hands dirty.
