The South Lanes luxury hotel Du Vin describe their decor as an "eccentric mix of Gothic revival and mock Tudor architecture” – we just call it plain ol’ swanky. This is the sort of place BarChick wants to get married in. They have a Cave du Vin with super-sized bottles of Champagne that make a magnum look stingy. We’ll take a few of those, please.

Wedding or no wedding, this is a special occasion kinda place. On the lower part of Ship Street, they have a bustling bistro with an excellent selection of cognac and cigars, and a nice outdoor area to enjoy them in. Just a door down, is the Pub Du Vin with modern minimalist interior and two large tankered ales proudly on display. Expect the usual fancy gastro pub food – last time we went they had a deal for a dozen oysters for a fiver.
