Opened in 2005 on the ground floor of the Loews Hotel, this was one of the first spots to revive the flagging craft cocktail scene in the city, and they’re proud of it. An airy open space with plenty of standing room for crowds and a couple of settees for those who like to lull, the bar is large and grand.
Running the cocktail show is bar chef Lu Brow - you’ll spot her easily with her killer red hair - and she’s who to thank for your equally killer cocktails; well-balanced originals and time tested classics. Start off with their signature Adelaide Swizzle with Rougaroux Rum, Peychaud’s Bitters, lime, soda and a secret ingredient, and then move on to a classic – they make a mean Sidecar here. Snacks? Sure. We love their take on shrimp remoulade and the fact that their cheeseburger has absinthe in it, or head to the restaurant Café Adelaide for a sit down dinner.
Part of the famous Commander’s Group, it’s headed up by ‘Cocktail Chicks’ and cousins Ti Martin and Lally Brennan, who have been working hard to make Nola the cocktail capital it once was. This place pays tribute to their bon vivant aunt Adelaide Brennan, who wore a swizzle stick on a necklace to stir her drinks. Our kinda gal.
