In the world of luxury hotels, The Ritz needs no introduction - and if ya don’t already know its bar, you’ll be very pleased to meet its acquaintance. The Rivoli Bar at The Ritz is a slick, stylish jewellery box of a drinking den with a penchant for art deco glamour. The bar itself is tricked out with gold leaf, satinwood and Lalique glass; the service is impeccable, with white-jacketed bartenders and servers ready to spill their cocktail knowledge; and the surrounding space is both opulent and intimate.
The drinks are just as refined. Many of ‘em are nods to notable figures in English history, some who frequented The Ritz in their day. We hear that Winston Churchill knocked back a fair few drinks at the hotel, and Churchill’s Courage, with butter-washed Woodford Reserve Bourbon, white port, maple syrup and vanilla bitters, is named for him. Another banger is the Rue de Rivoli, a dramatic riff on the Boulevardier with Dalmore 15 whisky, Amaro Santoni, cherry wine, orange bitters and white chocolate.
Complimentary bar snacks come in the form of the holy trifecta: crisps, olives and nuts. Naturally, they’re great, but you’re here to splash out. Caviar and canapés? The bill might not feel so fun, but it’s DAMN GOOD. And with the hotel undergoing major refurbishments over the next few years - which we hear will include a second bar - things are only getting ritzier from here. Hell yeah.
