The legendary Copacabana Palace Hotel is grand, beautiful and oh so glam. Since 1923 this historic art deco hotel has been a playground for Rio’s rich and famous and dah-ling, we love it. Cavort in one of two bars, The Piano Bar or Bar Do Copa.
Traditional in appearance, The Piano Bar is situated next to an elegant swimming pool. Don’t actually swim (not glam) but do listen to the token old dude twinkling Bossa Nova on a mini-grand beneath a giant chandelier. A great place for an aperitif or a bottle of wine, BarChick felt adventurous so opted for the Brazilian Villa Francioni rose 2008. Although it didn’t look like a blush, it tasted like one and that’s all that matters, right?
If you’re into a bit of celeb whoring then you’ll love it here at the weekend (it goes without saying that you’ll wanna dress up), if you’d rather avoid a rubber-neck then come Mon-Fri, it tends to be quieter.
Bar du Copa (du Disco) kicks off just as the Piano Bar closes, which is nifty. Reminiscent of any posh West End club, look upon this place as a Brazillian Mahikis. The décor is opulent to say the least and the ceiling is covered in mini star-lights. The crowd varies from night to night, from hotel guests to rich kids to BarChicks, you’ll find ‘em all here, rocking out to chart hits. Getting crunk at Bar Du Copa comes at a price, so if you’re not packing plastic you better pray the person you pull is. Luckily BarChick never has to worry about this kind of thing, so she drank Don and smoked dollar bills all night long, honey.
