BarChick loves her burgers, so when she heard that Royale Eaterie on Long Street had over 50 different types on offer, she was salivating at the mere thought. Especially considering they described them as “burgers that make your soul tingle and your dreams come true”. Needless to say when she was in Cape Town she went twice… had to be done.
This place gets rammed so either call ahead or head down and get your name on the list, they’ll ring you when they’ve got a table, always a nice touch. With seating outside, downstairs and upstairs it doesn’t take long for a table to free up so don’t be put off by the crowds, it’s worth the wait.
Upstairs it’s all kitsch like a grandmother’s kitchen, with various instruments on the walls, chequered table cloths and flowers on the table. Get comfy because you’re gonna want to really read this menu! With beef, ostrich, wagyu, lamb, chicken and a whole load of veg options on offer, pick wisely.
The drinks menu is a gooden, with cocktails, loads of craft beers and good wine (the house red is damn good and seriously affordable) there is something for everyone. If you want a cocktail the Margaritas are always good, or try the Strawberry and Basil Mule, with basil-infused vodka built over ice with fresh lime juice, strawberries and mango charged with ginger beer! Really punishing that diet? Get the Patron milkshake in (or the avocado and mint if you’re feeling a bit quirky?). With 28 flavours on offer whatever milkshake you pick you will be satisfied!
