Sager + Wilde has ripped up the wine bar rule book with this hipster-loving Hackney Road hangout: exposed brick walls, small marble-topped tables and a long bar made out of old street tiles. Totally industrial. There are plenty of cool cats in the house, but it's the wines and the sommelier-owner Michael Sager that turn us on.

The wine list is impressive and affordable, so no sweat when you’re onto your third… bottle.  The daily changing specials menu is littered with lesser-known wines, some exclusive to Sager + Wilde, so stick with it and you’ll be set. The grilled cheese sandwich has been hashtagged more than most and the snacking charcuterie ain't going to disappoint either.

Do take a bottle home with you and do check out the framed collection of sh*t they found under the floorboards when they were building, various old coins and cigarette packets, totally vintage.
