If the name makes you think it’s going to be yet another speakeasy, think again. Up past the rather tight staircase, is a small and remarkably laid back lounge. This is the place to grab a drink and not take life so seriously.

The décor transports you straight back to 1907, with dark red and black colours, lots of little candles and plush velvet. With a very expansive absinthe list, if you’ve not been introduced to the Green Fairy, this is the perfect place to do it. The super friendly staff will gently take your hand and guide you on a journey from the seventies back to the twenties. The whole cocktail list is filled with classics too, schooling us in the awesome drinks that got the original cocktail train moving. We loved the Blood & Sand (scotch, Rosso Vermouth, cherry brandy and blood orange juice): sweet, sharp, strong and a little husky – perfect.

All is not what meets the eyes here: there is also a recording studio and a grand ballroom that host gigs and events. BarChick likes a giver.
