Bartenders

Charlotte Charret

Where are you currently working?

I’m currently the Head Bartender of The Bloomsbury Club Bar, a stunning central London bar which takes inspiration from the lives of the famously hedonistic Bloomsbury Set.

Tell us something about the industry we might not know!

Since last May, I’ve been part of an all-female bartender club called ‘Les Femmes du Bar’, created by French liquor brand St Germain. Being a woman in the bar industry is not always easy but I’m proud to collaborate and work with so many ambitious and talented women, and I think it’s really important to prove we can change the image of bartending and women behind the bar. We try to do our best every day while maintaining a good balance with our private life, which can be challenging. Working in this industry is not easy but I do love it!

What is your favourite cocktail?

Gin & Milk it’s an amazing forgotten cocktail, made with Gin, full cream milk and simple syrup or orgeat. May not sound very appealing but it’s absolutely delicious, and quite surprising. The Queen Mother used to drink it as well!

Ever had a bad-ass/rock n roll bartending moment?

I’ve had a fair few rock-n-roll bartending moments! Making it to the global final of the Hernö Gin Cocktail Awards was a great one; one of the world’s most challenging and unique gin competitions, which sent us foraging the area surrounding the distillery for our cocktail’s ingredients. But my absolute favourite must have been sharing the bar with three of London’s best female bartenders for the Les Femmes Du Bar event organized by St Germain at Dalloway Terrace – we each had a signature St Germain cocktail, and a great crowd of over 100 people to serve!

Where will we find you on your nights off?

Having cocktails in a nice London bar or at home cooking - never forget to look after yourself!

If you weren’t tending bar, what would you be doing?

I’d probably be a photographer or a global brand ambassador for a liquor company, because I love bartending, spirits and travelling!

What is your desert island bottle?

It must be Whisky, without any doubt. I usually prefer Japanese whiskies, which I find more delicate. I was also lucky enough to try a 30 year old Talisker whisky, which I totally fell in love with!

What is your hangover cure?

One pill of paracetamol before bed and lots of water.
