Most of Mar Mikhael spills out on to the street, and the road is shared with traffic jams and young drinkers alike. However, Sud, set back from the road in a charmingly renovated courtyard bucks the trend, it’s an oasis of calm from the noise and fumes below. Set over two levels, with a Mexican bistro below and a terrace cocktail bar above, it is quickly becoming one of the cool new spots to drink. Upstairs is where it's at, with comfy sofas perfect for relaxing in the late afternoon sun before it starts to get crowded and the music starts to pump.

On Friday or Saturday nights, get here early and bagsy a seat, or elbow your way in at the bar and wait for the party to kick off Beiruti style. BarChick doesn’t mind a squeeze, especially if there’s a good drink in her hand and hot drinkers around her. The drinks are good, choose your base and your preference (sweet, sour, fruity…), and don’t be afraid to get creative, these guys can handle it. Eat delicious tapas, the menu spans French, Italian and Catalan cuisine because three’s the magic number baby.
