The Knave of Clubs is making its grand return to Shoreditch on February 27 and it’s setting itself up to be the kind of place that’s impossible to leave. Whether you’re settling into a booth with a pint, tucking into a next-level Sunday roast, or sipping a Negroni at the bar, one thing’s for sure—this place is going to be packed.
So, what’s the deal? Originally a pub dating back to 1880, this East London legend is being revived by some industry heavyweights. We’re talking James Dye (the brains behind The Camberwell Arms and Bambi), Benjy Leibowitz (ex-JKS Restaurants and NoMad New York), and Patrick Powell (culinary genius from Allegra and Midland Grand Dining Room). With a lineup like that, we're game.
First up, the pub vibes. The Knave of Clubs is going full-on modern tavern with a killer rotisserie grill. Expect smoky goodness in the form of rotisserie chicken, prawn scotch eggs, grilled cheese and venison sausage rolls. Sundays? Oh, they’re bringing proper roast dinners with all the trimmings, our fave.
Then there’s the drinks—and they’re going big on heritage. They’ve teamed up with Allsopp’s Brewery, the OG owners from the 1930s, meaning cask ales and a historic beer on tap. It ain't just beers though they’re also serving pre-batched negronis, Guinness and a have solid wine list.
Like it so far? They’re also launching a whole separate restaurant upstairs in March. Named One Club Row, it’s a 'lil more serious with Parisian bistro-meets-New York tavern energy. The menu? Lobster and country ham croquettes, a burger au poivre, and a twice-baked chocolate cake. Basically, the kind of food you need before (or after) a long night of drinking.
