The Church

BARCHICK SAYS

If you find yourself in the cool and understated Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham then you’ll want to make sure you hit The Church. It’s a little bit of pub with a hint of French Bistro, plus whack in some Louisiana cookin’, throw in an awesome roof terrace and you have yourself one wicked spot. The décor is diner booths, Art Nouveau artwork, bootlegger bottle crates and elaborate stained glass windows.

Behind the food side of things are two guys bringing dishes full of the deep south and they call themselves the Soul Food Project; get baskets of honey hot wings, salt cod dumplings or catfish goujons, just make sure you save room for their house jambalaya. Their cocktails are strong with some of our favourite New Orleans classics like Sazeracs and Hurricanes and a big selection of spirits including tequila, mescal, absinthe and amaro.

If the sun’s out their roof terrace out back is where it’s at. Get there quick if you want the throne seat… best spot in the house innit.
