Circa on Frith Street is the scene’s newest and chicest gay bar. A long low-lit room with exposed brick walls, stripped wood floors and a fashionable mix of modern and vintage furniture, Circa somehow manages to feel like several bars in one. On sunny (or even vaguely mild) days, the ante-room at the front with windows opening onto the street is the place to see and be seen, while by night a good-looking and generally younger crowd fills the space around the spectacularly camp mirrorball DJ booth.

As the evening wears on - Circa is open until 1am every night of the week - the place takes on more of a club feel. Regular DJs include scene legend The Very Miss Dusty O on Sundays, while Wednesday night is the hilarious Slut Machine. There’s a good cocktail list - this is the only gay bar you’ll get a half-decent Martini in, and believe me I’ve tried - as well as not-too-heftily-priced Champagnes; there’s something about Circa’s sexy surroundings that makes you want to splash out. Definitely BarCock’s new favourite place.
