At the top of Hotel Erwin is High Rooftop Lounge which is a, err, rooftop lounge, unsurprisingly. This is where all the young Cali babes get high to escape the weird wonderfulness of Venice Beach, catch some rays, listen to Fleetwood pump out the speakers and chill the f*ck out. Winning formula.

Get up there late afternoon to nab a cabana out front where y’all can sit back and watch the rollerbladers skate along the boardwalk, or see the kids shooting some hoops on the basketball court below. This is California at its clichéd best.

The cocktail menu ain’t nothing to shout about but it’s got most bases covered – Summer Thyme with Hendricks gin, cucumber and thyme syrup packs a punch and keeps it cool. The beer selection is where it’s at so grab an ice cold one of those bad boys, sit back and watch the sun sink in to the Pacific Ocean – this has got to be LA’s number one sunset spot.
