Poke your nose down an industrial-looking alleyway off one of Melbourne's main drags, and you will be welcomed into this minute old American-style drinking salon (which is also a coffee bar from 8.30am-5pm).
With an old wooden bar, three-piece copper drink shakers, back hand pouring techniques, a black and white checkered floor and strict standing-room-only for just 10 people, this is a destination bar that you will either love or hate.

They are serious about cocktails here and have a no-label policy to stop anyone ordering by the brand - one of each of their chosen spirits sits in glass decanters at the back. On the menu are three wines, an amaro of the week and aperitifs (most popular from 6pm until midnight). All cocktails are taken from a different classic cocktail book every season. Do try an Americano (Campari, sweet vermouth and soda carbonated then flavoured with rooibos tea for extra oomph), sip sweetly while listening to swing, jazz and blues. Remember to take a trip to the loo, it’ll take you back in time.
